NEWSLETTER FOR FEBRUARY 2005

Commander: Talbot Hackett genberry@msn.com

First of all, I’d want to extend a warm welcome to Brother Perry Greene.  Brother Greene comes to us from the Sam Houston Camp #3, Department of the Southwest.  He has already accepted the appointment as the Camp Patriotic Instructor.

And many thanks to Brothers Dave Milam, who has agreed to the position as the Camp Guide and Steve Pearce, who will be doing double duty as the Camp Historian and Signals Officer. Brother Brian Hogan has once again agreed to be the Camp Graves Registration Officer.    His endeavors are always appreciated. These Brothers will be officially installed to their offices at the next stated meeting.

Our dedication ceremony for Lieutenant Colonel Townes those past January 29th went very well.  My deepest appreciation to all those that took part or attended, especially to the members of the 42nd Indiana Infantry.  Without their willingness to help, we could not have rendered the proper honors to Colonel Townes. We look forward to working with them again in the future.

Once again, the PVT Richard Taylor Camp has been given the honor of hosting the Annual Department Encampment next year.  Commander Shawn Atchley would like to hold it in either January or February 2006.  My thoughts were that we could hold it at the Highlands Methodist Church, followed by a potluck dinner and program.  Any and all thoughts or suggestions on the subject will be greatly appreciated. We need to provide the Department with a plan as soon as possible.

At our next stated meeting on February 28th, following the installation of the appointed officers and a short business meeting, we will be performing the initiation ceremony in the long form for Brother A.P. Johnson. All camp members that have uniforms are urged to wear them for this. Officers involved in the ceremony will either be in uniform or coat and tie. I hope to all Brothers in attendance. Rehearsal for the ceremony will be at the Highland Methodist Church on February 27th at 6:30 PM.

It is dues time once again.  Please insure that you get with Brother Hintze and get yours up-to-date, if you haven’t already done so.  Dues ($25) for the 2005 calendar year are due. Please make dues to “SUVCW Camp Richard Taylor” and send them to the Camp Treasurer

Brother Edison Conner is in the Carrington Nursing Home, room 262.  I've been told that weekends are the best time to visit him and that he has plenty of reading material, etc.  However, he does have a particular fondness for the miniature candy bars.

Next meeting, February 28, 2005, 7:00 P.M., at Highlands United Methodist Church,

Respectfully submitted in F, C, and L,

Talbot Hackett-Commander & Geoffrey Hintz -Secretary/Treasurer
