Commander David E. Milam opened a regular Meeting of the Richard Taylor Camp #53 SUVCW at 7:00 pm on 26 February 2001.  Chaplain Cottrell gave the invocation.  He meeting was attended by 9 gentleman, two of which are prospective members, Mr. Bill Hollis and Mr. Gordon Bone.

At present the Richard Taylor Camp #53 SUVCW has eight members of which two hold dual memberships with another camp, and one Associate member.  Two additional Life Members at Large are in the process of transferring into the chapter.

The minutes of the January 29, 2001 meeting was read and approved.  The treasurer's report was read and approved.

The planned meeting with Real Daughter, Mrs. Sammie Mason of Athens, Alabama, was postponed due to illness and will be rescheduled at a later date.  A card was signed by all gentlemen present and will be mailed to Mrs. Mason.

Brother Brian Hogan wore his Civil War uniform with the markings of the Iron Brigade.  Brother Hogan educated the Camp on some of the activities of the Iron Brigade.

Mr. Eric Schultz, from the Huntsville Times, arrived to take pictures for an upcoming newspaper article.

Various Brothers brought various pieces of historic Civil War memorabilia.  Brothers Hogan and Cottrell brought their ancestors rifles, Brothers Gaddy and Hogan displayed tin-type photographs of their ancestor.  Brother Hogan and Mr. Gordon Bone displayed other displays of memorabilia in the form of paperwork.

Camp prospect, Mr. Gordon Bone, read an article about his ancestor.

A committee to investigate a cemetery containing Union soldiers, for a Memorial Day remembrance to commemorate all Union Veterans was voted on and approved.

Seeing no further business at hand, Commander Milam closed the meeting at 8:25 pm.; Chaplain Cottrell gave the benediction.

As part of, what I hope to be a monthly addition to the newsletter, each member is asked to submit a short write-up on his ancestor.  This month submitted is the ancestor of Brother Daniel L. Nation.  At present, we have biographies of the Civil War ancestors of three Brothers.  Please submit your write-ups and pictures to Brother Steve Pearce.
