Camp Commander, Brother Steve Pearce, opened the June
meeting of the Richard Taylor Camp #53 SUVCW, at 7:00 pm, 30 June 2003. Brother Joe Johnson led the Camp in the
Pledge to the American flag, Brother Geoffrey Hintz let the Camp in the
American Creed and Brother Gordon Cottrell followed with prayer.
Old business:
Special
thanks to Don Davis for lining up the 42nd Indiana Infantry as the
honor guard for the Memorial Day ceremony.
Also a thank you to those who attended and marched with the 42nd
Indiana. Brother Hintz is working on digital videos of
the ceremony. Another special thanks to
Brother Hogan for printing out and sharing the photos of the ceremony.
New Business
As of the date
of the meeting, no members have been identified as delegates to the National
encampment.
The 2004
Department of Tennessee Encampment is tentatively to be held on February 28,
2004, at Highlands United Methodist Church. Brothers Johnson and Cottrell will check on
various dinner options.
Timeline was established for the
election of officers for the coming year.
In August nominations for each office will be collected and in September
the election will be held.
Discussion of
this Veterans Day parade. Possible use
of Brother Johnson’s truck and Brother Pearce’s convertible.
Brother
Hackett moving to Ft. Leavenworth where his wife will attend military officer Command
and Staff development.
The DUVCW in
Knoxville is willing to help in Civil War grave identification and
registration.
Brother Hogan heading the effort to identify the last remaining
Civil War soldier in each county.
Looking for volunteers to assist.
The Camp annual report reflects that 19 Brothers renewed their membership
with two additional Brothers handing in applications brings the membership to
21.
The meeting closed at 8:15pm with prayer by Brother Cottrell.
