On October 25, 2004, the Sons of
Union Veterans of the Civil War, Pvt. Richard Taylor, Camp 53, met at 7pm for
the induction of officers for the year 2004-2005 with the monthly meeting
following the induction. Brother Brian
Hogan led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance and Brother Gordon Cottrell
opened the meeting with prayer.

Outgoing Camp Commander Geoffrey
Hintze brought the Camp to order then turned the induction over to Brother
Steve Pearce the sitting Department of Tennessee Commander. The officers elect present were read their
charge then installed. Pictures can be
seen on the Camp webpage under “Other Camp Photos.”

Congratulations to these Brothers
and the Camp looks forward to another successful year.
The Camp discussed being in the Huntsville Veterans Day Parade on
November 11. Commander Hackett and
Bother Pearce will show up at the open lot across from the Post Office on
Clinton Ave. at 9:30. Brothers wishing
to participate should plan on arriving by 10:30. Parking will be difficult the closer to 11 that folks
arrive.
Brother Hogan has obtained the headstone for Lt Colonel Robert Ross
Townes, who is buried in the Athens City Cemetery, beside his wife. At a time to be determined the Camp will
hold a ceremony at the grave of LTC Townes.
A fee of $50 will be necessary to set the stone. More information from Commander Hackett on
the subject detailing a time and place.
Dues ($25)
for the 2005 calendar year are due by December 31 2004. Please make dues to “SUVCW
Camp Richard Taylor” and send them to the Camp Treasurer
