On September 27, 2004, the Sons of
Union Veterans of the Civil War, Pvt. Richard Taylor, Camp 53, met at 7pm for
the monthly meeting. Brother Gordon
Cottrell opened the meeting with prayer.
Brother Brian Hogan led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance and
Brother Talbot Hackett led the members in the American Creed.
Camp
business:
The Camp discussed being in the
Huntsville Veterans Day Parade on November 11.
Brother Pearce has signed the Camp up to participate.
Brother Hogan has ordered a headstone for Lt Colonel Robert Ross
Townes, who is buried in the Athens City Cemetery, beside his wife. At a time to be determined the Camp will
hold a ceremony at the grave of LTC Townes.
A fee of $50 will be necessary to set the stone.
The following officers were nominated and all unanimously elected
to fulfill the duties elected for 2004-2005.
Brother Pearce, Department of Tennessee Commander, will administer the
oath, at the October meeting.

Jr. Vice Commander: Joe Johnson
Secretary and Treasurer: Geoffrey Hintze.
Chaplain: Gordon Cottrell.
Raffle
tickets sold for Civil War preservation activities at Appomattox.
Next
meeting, October 25, 2004, 7:00 P.M., at Highlands United Methodist Church,
3921 Broadmor Road, Huntsville, Alabama.
