From the Commander:

Brothers,

We welcome Brother Richard Olcott, of Scottsboro, to the Taylor Camp.  He was initiated in the long form at last month’s stated meeting and I’m sure he will be a valuable addition to our Camp.

It’s also time to begin planning for the Veteran’s Day parade.  I’ve already registered us on the WAFF website, so that part is done.  The flags were a big hit last year and I think we should plan to hand them out again this year.  Brother Jenness and I lost a couple of pounds walking the route beside Brother Burke’s truck passing them out. It was a warm one last year and let’s hope we have the same nice weather this year. I’d like to see as many as possible turn out this year and perhaps form a Color Guard to carry the flags (a good chance to show off our new Camp flag).  The route map can be viewed at www.waff.com, scroll to the bottom of the page to find the link.

The Huntsville Pilgrimage Association is already making plans for the Cemetery Stroll, which is to take place on May 6, 2007. If you’d like to participate this year, contact the Association through their website (http://www.huntsvillepilgrimage.org/). Brothers Pearce, Milam, Hogan, and I have portrayed various Union soldiers in the past and have had a great time. Brother Birney has been actively involved for a number of years, as well.  There are plenty of Union men in Maple Hill, so there’s enough to go around.  Putting on the uniform and telling the stories of Union soldiers who lived out their lives in Huntsville is another important way we can honor those who wore Union blue, so give the Association a call and help them out.

Camp elections are just around the corner.  They will be held at the stated meeting on October 30th, with the installation on November 27th.  Now is the time to begin thinking about which office you’d like to hold or who you want to nominate. Any one of you would be an excellent Camp Commander.

I hope to see everyone on September 25th.
