Brother Pearce opened the meeting at 7 PM on September 29, 2003. Past Commander David Milam let the Camp in the Pledge of Allegiance; Brother Burke led the American Creed, and Brother Cottrell's prayer the Camp was opened for business.

 

Camp business: 

 

Brother Pearce sent in the necessary paperwork to registrar the Camp to participate in the Huntsville Veterans Day Parade to be held on November 11, 2003.

 

Brother Cottrell discussed the banquet for the Dept of Tennessee Encampment. Bro Cottrell believes that we can have dinner for about $15.00.   Date for the Encampment is set for February 28, 2004, at the Highlands United Methodist Church, in Huntsville Alabama.

 

The members present voted the following Camp Members to serve as officers for the Nov-2003 to October 2004 term.

Brother Burke-Sr. Vice Commander and Publicity Chairman

Brother Pearce- Secretary/Treasurer

Brother Don Davis has made arrangements to have the officer ceremony to be held at the Huntsville Veterans Museum located at the old Huntsville Airport, off Airport Road.  Date is Monday October 27, 2003.  Directions to be posted on the Camp webpage.

 

For November and December meetings it was voted to have a joint meeting/Pot Luck dinner on December 13, 2003, at the home of Brother Milam.  Directions to be posted on the Camp webpage.

 

Brother Burke to form an activities committee to work publicity issues.

 

Brother Milam to work with Brother Hogan on turning the Memorial Day write up in to an article for local newspapers.

 

Brother Davis working on locating volunteers to participate in the formation of a local Civil War “Colored Soldiers” Regiment.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  $25 in Savings, $84.72 in Checking as of October 1, 2003.

Dues of $25 for the year January 2004 through December 2004 are now coming due.  Fees include, $18 to National, $2 to the Department, $3 for Sons of Veterans Reserve, and $2 to the Camp for Camp activities.

 

Secretary’s Report:  Camp has 21 Members to include 1 life member.  The Camp has one additional Junior Member.

 

The meeting was closed at about 7:45 PM with prayer from Chaplin Cottrell.

1.  It is my sad duty to report that Brother Christopher P. Geiger has died

while on active military service to our country.  He was a Sergeant with the

213th Support Group of the National Guard, stationed at Bagram Air Base,

north of Kabul, Afghanistan.  His immediate survivors are both parents, four

brothers and one sister.  He is also mourned by his fellow Brothers of

Captain Theo Howell Camp 48, Department of Pennsylvania, and our entire

membership, nationally.

 

2.  All Camp and Department Charters as well as our National Website are to

be draped in black for a period of thirty (30) days.

 

3.  All Brothers are respectfully directed to attach a black mourning ribbon

to their membership badge (per provision in our Constitution & Regulations -

Chapter V, General Regulations, Article III, Section 9) for a period of

thirty (30) days.

 

4.  Our deepest sympathies are extended to Brother Geiger's family.  I have

faith that the spirits of the soldiers and sailors whose memory we honor,

will greet another who has given his life while serving our country.
